BitBox02 Review

The BitBox02 is a hardware wallet from the Swiss company BitBox (formerly known as Shift Crypto). The wallet is available in two variants: a Bitcoin-only version and a Multi-Coin version. The latter allows you to manage Ethereum, Litecoin, Cardano, and ERC20 tokens, among others.

Advantages of BitBox02

• Leader in Bitcoin implementations: BitBox is often ahead in implementing new Bitcoin features. For example, they are currently the first hardware wallet with Silent Payments.
• Open-source: BitBox02 is 100% open-source. The source code is publicly available for review.
• SD card backup: During setup, the BitBox02 generates a private key. This is automatically saved on the included SD card. The SD card contains a copy of the private key and can be used to quickly restore access to your crypto on another BitBox02. Additionally, you can manually note down the Recovery Seed Phrase if preferred.
• Secure packaging: The BitBox02 box is fully sealed in thick plastic. This allows you to check whether the packaging has been tampered with.
• Dutch language support in BitBoxApp: The BitBoxApp is available in Dutch, among other languages. However, we noticed that some small sections or texts are not fully translated.

Disadvantages of BitBox02

• No iOS (Apple) support: The BitBox02 cannot be used with iOS devices.
• Selling from BitBoxApp: The BitBoxApp currently does not support selling crypto directly from the app.
