Getting started with your hardware wallet
Look up your hardware wallet below. For every model we explain how to confirm it is authentic, where to download the software, where the manufacturer's own manual lives and how to manage the backup, PIN code and firmware updates.
Never share your recovery phraseNobody at cryptomaan, BTC Direct or your wallet's brand will ever request it, whether by email, phone or chat. And don't enter it when a site or app prompts you for it.
Download software from the official address onlyEach wallet lists the brand's own web address, for example ledger.com/start or trezor.io/start. Avoid finding the app through a search engine or an advert, as counterfeit apps that steal recovery phrases can appear there.

BitBox
BitBox02 Nova
1Verify first
How to tell if your BitBox02 Nova is the real thing
- Make sure the clear vacuum bag with its grey pattern is intact along all four sealed edges.
- Plug in the device: the BitBoxApp runs the Attestation Check automatically before you unlock it.
- If a warning appears, stop and reach out to BitBox support.

- Yes, the device comes in a clear, vacuum-sealed bag with a grey pattern along all four edges
- In the box
- 1 BitBox02 Nova, 1 microSD card, 1 USB-C extension cable, 1 USB-A to USB-C adapter, 1 USB-C to Lightning adapter, rubber pulls, stickers
2Getting started
Only download the software frombitbox.swiss/start
- App
- BitBoxApp (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS and iPadOS)
- Need a phone or computer?
- Yes, setup runs through the BitBoxApp on a computer, Android device, iPhone or iPad
- Phone
- Android 9+ (via USB-C), iOS 16+ and iPadOS 16+ (via Bluetooth)

- Backup
- Backup on the included microSD card (not encrypted by default); optionally write down the recovery words (24 words by default, BIP39; 12 words is also possible)

- Passphrase
- Yes, optional passphrase of up to 149 characters (standard ASCII characters); enable it in the BitBoxApp (Settings > Manage device > Expert settings > Passphrase) and enter it on the device
- Recovering in another wallet
- Yes, the recovery words follow BIP39 and can be restored on another hardware wallet that supports BIP39

Action neededUse the BitBoxApp to confirm your firmware is 9.26.5 or newer, and update if it isn't. That release resolves the issues BitBox disclosed in August 2026. No exploitation has been reported.
- Updating firmware
- Through the BitBoxApp (Settings > Manage device > Firmware); the firmware is bundled with the app and an update does not change which coins are supported

Keystone
Keystone 3 Pro
1Verify first
How to tell if your Keystone 3 Pro is the real thing
- Go to keyst.one/authentication (Device Verification) on a computer and click 'Scan QR Code'.
- Use the Keystone's camera to scan the QR code on the website.
- Enter the verification code that appears on the Keystone into the website and view the result.
- If verification fails, stop using the device, do not enter any recovery phrase and email [email protected]. Keystone advises running this check on arrival, before first use.
- Packaging seal
- Authenticity is confirmed with Device Verification; the device additionally has an anti-tamper mechanism
- In the box
- 1 Keystone 3 Pro, 1 USB-C to USB-C cable, 1 manual, 6 seed phrase sheets, 1 jelly tape; no microSD card
2Getting started
- App
- Keystone Nexus (iOS and Android)
- Need a phone or computer?
- No for setup: that happens entirely on the device. Balances and transactions require a software wallet on a phone or computer; Device Verification and firmware updates require a computer
- Phone
- Android, iOS 16.6+ for the Keystone Nexus app
- Computer
- No dedicated desktop app; works on a computer with browser extensions (MetaMask, Rabby, OKX) and desktop wallets (Sparrow) via QR code or USB
3Backup and access
- Backup
- Recovery phrase of 24 words (default) or 12 words on the included seed phrase sheets, or Shamir Backup (recovery phrase split into several parts, e.g. 2-of-3). One device manages up to 3 recovery phrases, each with a password of its own
- PIN code
- PIN (digits) or password (digits, letters and symbols), combined with a fingerprint (up to 3 fingerprints) for unlocking and signing. Forgotten password: reset it by verifying the recovery phrase. If the device is opened, the anti-tamper mechanism wipes all sensitive data
- Passphrase
- Yes; create it via Device Settings > Wallet Settings > Passphrase and enter it on the touchscreen. The passphrase is not saved and has to be re-entered after every restart (also possible via 'Passphrase Quick Access' on the lock screen)
- Recovering in another wallet
- Yes, restorable in any wallet that supports BIP39; mind the derivation path, which varies by brand (BTC and ETH match Ledger, other coins may not)

NGRAVE
NGRAVE
1Verify first
How to tell if your NGRAVE is the real thing
- Power on the ZERO for the first time: the device prompts you to scan a QR code on NGRAVE's website.
- Scan that QR code with the ZERO's camera; this 'cryptographic attestation' confirms the device is authentic and was built by NGRAVE.
- At every start-up the ZERO verifies the firmware signature on its own; if it doesn't match, the device won't boot.
- If the box looks opened or damaged, leave the package untouched, take pictures and email [email protected].
- Packaging seal
- The ZERO itself can't be opened without leaving damage or marks
- In the box
- ZERO: 1 ZERO, 1 USB-C cable, manuals. ZERO + GRAPHENE: also 1 GRAPHENE (upper and lower plate) and 1 punch pen
2Getting started
Only download the software fromngrave.io/en/liquid
- App
- NGRAVE LIQUID (iOS and Android)
- Need a phone or computer?
- Setup takes place on the ZERO itself, but at first start-up the ZERO scans a QR code on NGRAVE's website for the authenticity check. Balances and transactions require the LIQUID app on a phone (or MetaMask/Rabby); firmware updates require a computer
- Phone
- Android 12+, iOS (iPhone 6 or newer)
- Computer
- No desktop app. For firmware updates: Windows 10+ or macOS 12 recommended, Linux via the command line. Usable on a computer with the MetaMask and Rabby browser extensions
3Backup and access
- Backup
- NGRAVE Perfect Key (64 hexadecimal characters, equal to a 24-word recovery phrase), to be stored on the stainless steel GRAPHENE plates (in the bundle or sold on their own); the 24 words can be shown via Settings > Display secret key. Since firmware 1.5 a new wallet can only be created as a Perfect Key; importing an existing 12, 15, 18 or 24-word recovery phrase still works
- PIN code
- 8-digit PIN code on a keypad whose digits keep moving around, optionally combined with a fingerprint; after 10 incorrect PINs the device wipes itself (when unlocking by fingerprint you're offered the option to wipe after 5 failed attempts). Sensors also wipe the device if it is opened
- Passphrase
- Yes; via Settings > Passphrase, 1 to 512 characters, case-sensitive, entered on the touchscreen. Every passphrase opens a separate hidden wallet; the passphrase is not saved on the ZERO
- Recovering in another wallet
- Yes, the Perfect Key can be converted to 24 words (BIP39) and imported into another ZERO or a different wallet
Restoring, or forgot your code?
4Keeping it current
- Updating firmware
- Through NGRAVE's official update tool on a computer (Windows 10+ or macOS 12 recommended; Linux via the command line) with the USB-C cable in 'update mode'. Only NGRAVE-signed firmware gets installed; downgrading is not possible

Tangem
Tangem Wallet 2.0
1Verify first
How to tell if your Tangem Wallet 2.0 is the real thing
- Install the official Tangem app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Open the app and tap the card against the back of your phone; the app verifies automatically that the chip and firmware are Tangem's.
- When the 'Create Wallet' screen shows up, the card is authentic and has never been activated.
- Does the app report the wallet as already activated although you never did so? Reset the card to factory settings. If the authenticity check fails, don't create a wallet and reach out to Tangem Support (include photos of the card and packaging plus where you bought it).
- Packaging seal
- Tangem relies on the app rather than stickers to confirm a card is genuine
- In the box
- 3 Tangem cards (cryptomaan sells sets of 3; Tangem offers sets of 2 or 3), 1 getting-started leaflet, 1 spec sheet
2Getting started
Only download the software fromtangem.com/enApp download button on the homepage
- App
- Tangem app (iOS and Android)
- Need a phone or computer?
- Yes, an NFC-enabled phone running the Tangem app is always required, setup included
- Phone
- Android 6.0+ or iOS 15.0+ with full NFC support; not on iPhone 6/6s or iPhone SE (1st generation)
- Computer
- No desktop support; works only with the Tangem mobile app
3Backup and access
- Backup
- Seedless by default: the private key is generated on the chip and copied to 1 or 2 backup cards during setup; no further cards can be added afterwards. Alternatively, create the wallet with a 12- or 24-word recovery phrase (generated in the app) or import an existing recovery phrase
- PIN code
- Access code: any word, phrase or number you like, entered in the app. After 6 incorrect tries the delay per attempt grows by 1 second, up to 45 seconds at most; the card is never wiped. Forgot the code? Reset it in the app using a second card from the set. Biometrics in the app are optional
- Passphrase
- Limited: when importing an existing recovery phrase (12, 15, 18, 21 or 24 words), the app lets you fill in a passphrase
- Recovering in another wallet
- Only when the wallet was created with a recovery phrase (BIP39); without one, the key exists solely on the cards. Note: a recovery phrase does not guarantee access in another wallet
Restoring, or forgot your code?
4Keeping it current
- Updating firmware
- No firmware updates: the firmware is loaded into the chip a single time and can never be modified. New features and coins arrive with Tangem app updates

OneKey
OneKey Pro
1Verify first
How to tell if your OneKey Pro is the real thing
- Look over the packaging: there should be no signs the box was opened or re-glued, the 'self-destruct' label should be undamaged and the holographic seal on the device should still be in place.
- Turn on the device: it should be brand new, with no PIN, recovery phrase or wallet.
- Connect it to the OneKey App and run the authenticity check: click the account name, select the hardware wallet, then 'Edit' > 'Device authentication', and confirm on the device.
- When the screen reads 'Verification successful', it's a genuine OneKey device. Broken seal, or the device has already been set up? Don't use it and contact OneKey support.
- Packaging seal
- Yes: a 'self-destruct' label on the box and a holographic seal on the device; the shrink wrap only offers protection and is not a mark of authenticity
- In the box
- 1 OneKey Pro, 1 USB-C cable, 3 recovery sheets
2Getting started
Only download the software fromonekey.so/download
- App
- OneKey App (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android and a browser extension for Chrome)
- Need a phone or computer?
- No for setup: the recovery phrase is generated offline on the device. Balances, transactions and the authenticity check require the OneKey App on a phone or computer
- Phone
- Android 8.0+, iOS 14.0+ and iPadOS 14.0+
- Computer
- Windows 10+, macOS 10.11+, Linux (Ubuntu 12.04+, Fedora 21+, Debian 8+)
3Backup and access
- Backup
- 12- or 24-word recovery phrase, written on the 3 included recovery sheets
- PIN code

OneKey Classic 1S
1Verify first
How to tell if your OneKey Classic 1S is the real thing

Foundation
Passport Prime
1Verify first
How to tell if your Passport Prime is the real thing
- Look at the packaging: the box is sealed with a layer of self-adhesive bubble film, wrapped in shrink film.
- Power on the Prime, scan the QR code with your phone to launch Envoy and connect over QuantumLink.
- As part of setup, the Prime runs a Security Check by itself: Envoy has Foundation's validation server verify a key held in the secure element.
- A failed check may mean the device was tampered with or switched in transit: stop using it and email [email protected].
- Packaging seal
- Yes, the box is sealed with self-adhesive bubble film and shrink film; since customs may open a parcel, the Security Check matters as well
- In the box
- 1 Passport Prime, 1 setup card, 3 Keycards with Faraday sleeves, 1 USB-C charging cable
2Getting started
Only download the software fromfoundation.xyz/envoy
Official manualdocs.foundation.xyzSupplementary manual (setup with manual backup)docs.foundation.xyz
- App
- Envoy (iOS and Android)
- Need a phone or computer?
- Yes, setup starts by scanning a QR code with your phone and runs through the Envoy app (QuantumLink), Security Check and first firmware update included
- Phone
- Android and iOS through the Envoy app (App Store, Google Play and F-Droid)
- Computer
- No Foundation desktop app; usable on a computer with third-party wallets like Sparrow (via QR code, USB or file)
3Backup and access
- Backup
- Magic Backup as standard: Shamir Secret Sharing splits the Master Key into 3 parts (2 on Keycards via NFC, 1 encrypted in Envoy and your Apple or Google account); any 2 parts suffice. Alternatives with manual setup: 2-of-3 entirely on the 3 Keycards, or writing down the BIP39 recovery phrase (SeedQR also possible)
- PIN code
- PIN code of 6 to 12 digits or an alphanumeric password; 10 failed attempts in a row make the device erase the Master Key, after which you restore from a backup. Active tamper protection
- Passphrase
- Yes; through 'Apply Passphrase' in the Bitcoin Wallet app on the device. The passphrase isn't saved and unlocks a separate wallet; multiple passphrases are possible
- Recovering in another wallet
- Yes, the Master Key can be displayed as a 'BIP39-compliant' recovery phrase via Settings > Advanced Backups > View Seed Words; the other way round, a recovery phrase from another compatible wallet can be imported

ERA
ERA Wallet
1Verify first
How to tell if your ERA Wallet is the real thing
- At first start-up, tap START on the device and install the 'ERA Wallet Companion' app through the QR code on the screen.
- Tap VERIFY on the device and 'Start verification' in the app; the app displays a QR code.
- Scan that code with the ERA's camera; the secure chip signs the reply and the ERA displays a QR code back.
- Scan that one with the app: 'Authenticity check success' means the device is genuine and gets activated. The check can be repeated later via Settings > Authenticity Check in the app.
- Packaging seal
- The box comes sealed
- In the box
- 1 ERA Wallet, 1 wireless charging pad (USB adapter not supplied), 3 ERA Recovery Cards, 1 paper recovery sheet, 1 quick start leaflet
2Getting started
- App
- ERA Wallet Companion (iOS and Android)
- Need a phone or computer?
- Yes, at first start-up the authenticity check is done with the ERA companion app on a phone; firmware updates also go through the phone (NFC)
- Phone
- Android, iOS 13.0+ for the ERA companion app; firmware updates need a phone with NFC
- Computer
- No desktop app of ERA's own; usable on a computer with Sparrow, Guarda and browser extensions such as Keplr and Suiet, among others, via QR code
3Backup and access
- Backup
- ERA Recovery Card (recommended): encrypted NFC backup with a PIN code of its own, 3 cards in the box; a card locks for good after 15 wrong PINs. Alternatives: a 12- or 24-word recovery phrase on paper, or Shamir shares (20 or 33 words per share, threshold of your choosing). Up to 10 independent wallets, each with its own recovery phrase
- PIN code
- PIN code of 4 to 8 digits or a password of 4 to 256 characters; 5 failed attempts make the device reset itself and erase every wallet. An additional wallet password can be set per wallet
- Passphrase
- Yes; inside the wallet via the settings icon > Passphrase > Create, entered on the touchscreen. The device forgets the passphrase when switched off; one can be active per wallet at any time
- Recovering in another wallet
- Yes, using the paper recovery phrase (12 or 24 words) in a different BIP39 wallet. An ERA Recovery Card can only be read by ERA hardware
Restoring, or forgot your code?
4Keeping it current
- Updating firmware
- Over NFC with the ERA companion app on a phone (battery at 40% or more); the device checks the signature before installing. Firmware, bootloader and the ERA Lens database are updated separately
